Making My Day

Dear Austin,

I look at this picture and wonder how I ever got so lucky?! This picture makes my day. Hopefully it will make other people's days a little bit brighter. Always remember that a smile goes a long way to cheering yourself and others!

I love you, sweets!

Change

Dear Boys,

I've thought long and hard about what I want the purpose of this blog to be; who it is for. It didn't take me long to figure out that it is all about you boys.  I've thought about the challenges that you will face in this world.  I've thought about the adventures that you come upon.  I've thought about the wonderful little people that you are.  It all comes back to you and thoughts that I wanted to share with you.  So, in keeping with that we will be revamping this blog a little.  I have so many things that I want to share with you and I hope that one day some wisdom will be found in those thoughts.

All my love my dearest ones,
Mom

BA-NAN-A!!!

Ethan decided it would be appropriate to give a kamikaze yell during sacrament meeting. What did he yell, you might ask? As loud as he could and quite decidedly he yelled out, "BA-NAN-A!!!!"

I don't know why and frankly I don't ask.

Long Overdue

Meet Austin, the newest member of our fam.
This post is long overdue, being that he has been a member of our family for nearly 2 months. I hesitate to add too many personal details since our blog is not private, but I would love to share a few of my favorite pics of this little guy.

This is Mr. Austin on his first hot dog roasting adventure up the canyon. What a trooper.

I think the look on Ethan's face here is priceless.

Love me some boys.

My precious little guy.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the day Austin was born.

Brian Hobbs, during my labor: "This is taking forever!"

Dr. Fowers, after the baby was born: "You'll want to quit thinking man to man and start thinking zone defense."

Unnamed relative, whose name has been withheld because of the hilarity of the comment: "Did Austin get his vasectomy?"

Dr. Clarke, when informing us of the all the pros and cons of the circumcision: "I want you to know that most of my patients after having this procedure performed don't walk for up to a year afterward."

I just love this little guy! Welcome to the family, Austin! We're so glad you're here!

Now that this is funny . . .

I had an experience on Sunday that both totally offended and tickled my funny bone. I'm sure some will think that I misinterpreted the situation, but I still can't help but find it humorous . . . now.

We walked into church yesterday and sat down in one of the middle pews like we usually do. We sat in between two families. The one behind us is our neighbors, the Andersons. Love this family. They have 6 kids, 5 girls and 1 boy, ages 13 and under. Mom is the primary president, dad is a crack up. Just the sweetest family. The family in front of us will remain nameless, but they have 5 kids. After we had been sitting there for roughly 3 minutes the wife said something to the husband and they got up and marched their family forward 4 rows. Seriously? Apparently our children just are that rowdy. All 2 of them. A part of me wanted to follow them and sit behind them again just to see what they would do. After giving myself a few minutes to be offended I began to see the hilarity of that situation.

Visible Cringing and other faux pas

Nothing makes a person's true feelings be known like a visible cringe.

Example: "Hey everyone, we are expecting another baby . . . and guess what, it's a boy!" Followed by the noticeable visible cringe.

I'm not sure what the appropriate response is. Ideas?

My other favorite thing that we have been getting a lot of (outside of cringing and audible moans) is the comment from well-meaning people which usually happens at least twice a week. It goes a little something like this:

"Don't worry dear, one day they will be all grown up and you will miss these days when you had to wrestle them into submission at church."

Or . . .

"Boys are much easier to raise than girls. Just wait until they are teenagers and the worst that you have to deal with is keeping the fridge full while the rest of us are dealing with overactive hormones." (Apparently teenage boys do not have overactive hormones. Good to know.)

All sarcasm aside, guess what! We are having another baby, and it's a boy! We really are quite excited. Everyone kept asking us if we were wanting a girl this time around, and honestly the answer was no. We love our boys! We love their energy and enthusiasm. We love tractors and sand boxes; baseball caps and baseball bats; superheroes and bad guys.

Happy Wednesday everyone! May your day be full of wiggles and a big case of the rowdies!

Addendum

After worrying excessively over this whole kindergarten experience, Connor showed me that he was all ready.

When my child opened the door to the house 25 minutes before I was going to go get him off the bus I had a little freak out.

Me: Where did you come from?
Connor: From school.
Me: How did you get home?
Connor: I walked home.
Me: You walked home from school?!?! (A titch of hysteria climbing into my voice now. I am now having visions of Connor not actually going to his classroom that morning after I put him on the bus . . . just walking off and coming home. His school is at least a mile and a half away)
Connor: Yep. I got off the bus, crossed the street, walked down the hill, opened the gate, and come in the door. (Connor can be known to give quite the narrative at times.)
Me (a little more relieved): You rode the bus. (I'm still wondering why he is still 25 minutes early. I know that the first day of school the bus will run a little bit longer, but the second day he shouldn't be here 25 minutes sooner!)
Connor: Yep. I need a snack.

The light bulb goes on. The clouds part and a ray of sunshine hits my overly taxed mind.

Friday is an early release day at school. Guess who forgot . . .

Division of Child and Family Services, I promise I am not a bad mom. After said experience I promise I will never forget about early release Friday again. Ever. Promise.
